From performing a surprise choreographed wedding dance to capping off the night with a slice of cold-cheese pizza, Olivia Sluka and Jared Riegler said they had the perfect wedding day.

But let’s back up to six years ago, when it all began: Sluka and Riegler, both now 28, said they were set up at the end of their senior year at Towson University in Maryland, when Sluka needed a date for a sorority event.

“It was love at first sight,” she said.

Over the next four years, the couple got to know one another and their families. Sluka, a school social worker, is from New Jersey, and Riegler, a marketing manager, grew up in East Northport.

They got engaged at Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River on June 11, 2022.

“My mom’s birthday was June 14 and we were going out east to celebrate with my parents,” Riegler recalled. “Liv had told me we couldn’t surprise her, but I’d arranged for a photographer to be there at a gazebo.

My dad slipped the ring into my back pocket and then my parents said they were going to look at something and we kept walking.”

Even though it was unexpected, Sluka said, “It was perfect.” Afterward, they celebrated with friends and family at the Rieglers’ house.

At their recent May 11 wedding, they had a surprise of their own for their 205 guests, when they performed a choreographed dance at the reception. “Everyone was cheering and clapping,” Sluka said.

Following a “tuxedo station,” in which guests could choose black-and-white desserts as the reception ended, there was an after-party from midnight to 1 a.m. “Everyone stayed,” Sluka said, and many then adjourned to downtown Huntington for more celebrating at a friend’s bar.

Sluka and Riegler ended the night with a classic Huntington tradition: A slice of cold-cheese pizza at Little Vincent’s. “Everyone was great and let me cut the line — I was still in my after-party dress,” she said. “Being surrounded by family and being among supportive friends, it was the best day ever.”
