LIE reopens eastbound lanes after multiple car crash
All lanes of the Long Island Expressway between exits 50 and 51 in Dix Hills have reopened after a multicar crash had closed eastbound lanes, Suffolk police said.
Police responded to the crash on the eastbound side of the expressway just prior to exit 51 about 4:57 p.m. A limousine driver had rear-ended another vehicle, and three vehicles in total were rear-ended. Five vehicles were involved in the crash.
A 49-year-old man driving the first car to get rear-ended was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip by Dix Hills Fire Department with neck and back injuries, police said.
No one else involved in the crash was taken to a hospital.
The limousine driver was issued a ticket for following too closely.
