As a prelude to Memorial Day weekend, the Long Island Rail Road will introduce its new schedule Monday, to include enhanced seasonal service to the Hamptons, North Fork and stations on the branches that serve visitors to Fire Island.
The railroad's new Cannonball train that's to run nonstop from Penn Station to the Hamptons makes its debut departure Friday, May 24, at 4:07 p.m., with the return westbound service starting the evening of Sunday, May 26.
Customers headed to Bay Shore, Sayville and Patchogue for ferry service to Fire Island will have an added option -- a new eastbound weekday train to Speonk, departing Jamaica at 12:34 p.m.
The railroad will be resuming its weekend seasonal service to and from Greenport starting May 25, with two eastbound and two westbound trains on both Saturdays and Sundays.
The new schedule, reflecting service from Monday through Sept. 2, will also include changes related mostly to off-peak and weekend construction projects.
