Two Long Island men win $5 million each in lottery scratch-off game, officials say

Two Long Islanders, one from Nassau, the other a Suffolk resident, won $5 million prizes in the New York Lottery’s $300 million World Class Cash scratch-off game, officials said.
Both Louis DeMayo, of Port Jefferson Station and Jose Almazan, of Freeport, opted for single lump sum payments of $3,255,000 after required withholdings, the lottery announced last week.
"It feels good," DeMayo said in a statement released by the lottery
Neither winner was immediately available to comment.
De Mayo bought his ticket at Maakrupa Super Stop on Montauk Highway in Lindenhurst.
Almazan bought his at the Lucky 7 Food Market on North Main Street in Freeport.
No more top prizes from the latest contest are available, lottery officials said, while the deadline for cashing in smaller prizes on the game ends in November 2022.
During the state’s current fiscal year, New York’s scratch-off games produced $4,231,742,980 in total sales.
Suffolk school districts got $281,462,013 in Lottery Aid to Education funds during the same period. Nassau’s school districts received $176,051,834.
The state lottery, officials said "continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.59 billion in fiscal year 2020-2021 to help support education in New York State."
