4 arrested on drug charges in Baldwin

Four people -- three from Freeport, the other from Baldwin -- were arrested Monday evening on charges of drug possession after a joint investigation by Nassau County police Narcotics-Vice Bureau detectives and officers from the Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team, authorities said.

The arrests came after police said detectives observed Julio N. Peralta, 51, of 35 Bedell St., Freeport, "conducting narcotics sales" from his 1998 BMW -- selling drugs to three people in Freeport and Baldwin. Police said about an ounce of cocaine and an undetermined amount of cash were recovered from Peralta's vehicle.

Police said Peralta was arrested just after 9 p.m. in Baldwin on two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and three counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Peralta's bail was set at $200,000 bond or $100,000 cash at his arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead; he is due back in court Thursday.

Police said two other suspects, Mohan Ramdahin, 46, of 7 Russell Place, Freeport, and Pedro J. Quiroz, 56, of 16 Lincoln Place, Freeport, were arrested on one count each of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Also arraigned in Hempstead, Quiroz's bail was set at $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash; he is due back in court Thursday. Arraignment information was not available for Ramdahin.

A fourth person, Katiusca C. Polanco, 28, of 773 Merrick Rd., Baldwin, was issued a desk appearance ticket returnable March 10 on one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
