Four juveniles and a 17-year-old were arrested in Freeport after the five attempted to rob a 38-year-old man at knifepoint Tuesday, police said.

The incident occurred as the man was walking along Mount Avenue at 9:20 p.m., police said. Police said the five suspects approached the victim -- and said one displayed a knife, demanding the man's wallet.

But, police said, the victim ran to a nearby home and asked the homeowner to call police. Officers made the arrests a short time later.

Police said the four juveniles were each charged with first-degree attempted robbery and are scheduled to appear Wednesday in Family Court. The other suspect, identified as Richard Newton, 17, of 140 Harris Ave. in Freeport, also was charged with first-degree attempted robbery.

He is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.
