A who's who of NIFA
Created in 2000, the Nassau County Interim Finance Authority is a state agency run by seven unpaid directors, each appointed by the governor. They have four-year terms of office. One position is vacant. NIFA has given County Executive Edward Mangano until Jan. 20 to prove that his $2.6-billion budget is balanced. NIFA can take control of the county’s finances if there is a 1 percent deficit.
Ronald Stack (Chairman)
Wells Fargo banking executive who also specialized in government finance at several investment houses. Served on the federal Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board in 2006-09. Stack, of Port Washington, is a registered Democrat. Member since 2000.
George Marlin
Has written 10 books, including a history of the municipal bond industry and offers conservative commentaries for many media outlets. The New Hyde Park resident is chief operating officer of the Philadelphia Trust Co. He is a registered Conservative. Member since June 2010.
Leonard Steinman
Veteran corporate lawyer who served briefly as chairman of the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency. He is a partner at the Blank Rome law firm in Manhattan. Steinman, of Glen Head, is a registered Democrat. Member since June 2010.
Thomas Stokes
Chief financial officer of Weill Cornell Imaging at New York-Presbyterian hospital in Manhattan. After a career turning around troubled companies, was hired by Democratic Nassau Executive Thomas Suozzi as a strategist in health and human services. Became deputy county executive for operations and finance. Stokes, of Center Moriches, is a registered Republican. Member since June 2010*.
Robert Wild
A health care lawyer, Wild is chairman of Garfunkel Wild. He has taught at Hofstra University Law School and Stony Brook University. Wild, of Manhasset, has not declared a party affiliation. Member since June 2010*.
Christopher Wright
Longtime auditor for accounting giants KPMG and Arthur Andersen, he now leads the finance remediation and reporting compliance group at Protiviti consultants and auditors. Wright, of Levittown, is a registered Democrat. Member since 2007.
