Allen Sanders charged with robbing Freeport deli, Nassau police said
A Freeport resident was scheduled for arraignment Sunday in the robbery Saturday of a local deli during which he struck another man in the head with a pellet gun, Nassau police said.
Allen Sanders, 22, of 171 Jay St, was charged with robbery, police said.
Nassau County police said the robbery occurred shortly after 4 p.m. at the Freeport Deli Express, 198 N. Main St.
Police said Sanders is the man who entered the deli wearing a black mask and displaying what appeared to be a gun. He ordered a 24-year-old male working behind the counter to the floor while he removed the cash from the register.
The victim realized that the weapon was a pellet gun and began to struggle with the intruder who struck him in the head with the weapon, police added. The owner came from the rear office to assist the victim at which time the suspect's mask came off and the owner recognized him.
After fleeing the store without any proceeds, Sanders was located by Freeport police at his home and arrested, police said. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of a laceration to his head.
