Baby ospreys rescued after crash knocks down their nest in Bayville
Two baby osprey survived after being rescued when their nest was knocked from a pole in a motor-vehicle accident in Bayville on Wednesday, Nassau County police said.
The accident on Bayville Road at about 10:15 p.m. sent the nest to the ground, where it was found to contain three baby ospreys by Second Precinct officers, a Nassau medical technician and members of the Bayville Fire Department.
The baby osprey were taken by the Volunteers for Wildlife Hospital and Education Center, located at the Bailey Arboretum in Locust Valley where two are being cared for, according to the Volunteers.
One of the birds died, police said.
