Baldwin man faces attempted murder charge
A Baldwin man faces an attempted murder charge after police said he beat and punched a woman, placed a bag over her head and then tried to strangle her.
Police said in a Thursday morning news release that David Knudson, 41, of 2882 Dahlia Ave., "repeatedly punched the 32-year-old female victim in the head and face and then placed a garbage bag over her head and his hands around her neck and began to choke her" at about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The woman escaped Knudson, ran to an upstairs apartment and called police.
Responding officers found Knudson at the scene and he was arrested after a short struggle, Nassau County police said.
The woman "sustained serious injuries" and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said. They had no further information on her injuries, her updated condition or relationship with her alleged attacker.
Knudson is charged with attempted murder, two counts of assault, second-degree strangulation, aggravated criminal contempt, two counts of criminal contempt and resisting arrest, police said.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
