A 14-year-old boy was struck by a Ford pickup truck while riding a bike in Merrick Friday night, according to Nassau police.  Credit: Jim Staubitser

A 14-year-old boy was in critical condition after being struck by a Ford pickup truck while riding a bike in Merrick on Friday night, according to Nassau County police.

The bicyclist was heading north on Merrick Avenue at 9:40 p.m. when he was hit by a 41-year-old driver in the 2023 pickup traveling west on Sunrise Highway, police said.

The boy suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition. The driver remained at the scene. A police investigation is ongoing.
