Cops: East Rockaway woman crashes SUV into car after fight
An East Rockaway woman argued with a man she knew, then intentionally crashed an SUV into his car early Sunday morning, Nassau County police said.
No one was injured, police said.
Police said the 19-year-old victim was sitting in a 2002 Volkswagen on Smith Street in East Rockaway with an 18-year-old male friend at 12:11 a.m. when Elizabeth Dwyer, 20, of Smith Street, approached the vehicle.
Dwyer, who knew the victim, began arguing with him before leaving in a 1996 Jeep sport utility vehicle, police said.
Dwyer soon returned, and when the victim tried to leave his parking space, Dwyer positioned her vehicle to block him in, police said.
The victim then put his car into reverse to escape, and Dwyer followed him in her vehicle, police said. The two headed east on Smith Street, then north on Lawson Avenue.
Dwyer then intentionally crashed into the victim's car, causing the Volkswagen to run over a curb and hit a tree on Lawson Avenue, police said. She then drove away, heading east on Smith Street, according to police.
After an investigation, police arrested Dwyer at Lawson Avenue and Smith Street and charged her with third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident without report and insufficient headlights. At her arraignment Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, Dwyer was released on her own recognizance. She is due back in court Tuesday.
Dwyer's vehicle was impounded.
