A Glen Cove man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he was stopped early Wednesday morning for speeding -- at nearly double the posted speed limit -- on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, State Police said.

The driver, Dylan J. Taliep, 20, drove as fast as 109 mph in a 55 mph zone, New York State Police said.

Taliep was pulled over at 2:43 a.m. near Stewart Avenue by a trooper from the Valley Stream barracks who had observed him speeding, police said.

While interviewing Taliep, troopers detected a strong odor of alcohol, police said. He failed a sobriety test and registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.09 percent from a breath sample, police said.

Taliep, who police said also was charged with several traffic violations, faces court proceedings in First District Court in Hempstead.
