Cops: Island Park woman tried to sell $59G worth of stolen Lego sets on eBay
Call it the case of the building block bandit.
An Island Park woman is charged with stealing about 800 Lego play sets worth $59,000 and trying to sell them on eBay.
Nassau County police say Gloria Haas, 53, stole the Legos after noticing them in a customer's space at a local storage facility where she was also renting.
She moved the play sets to a different storage facility in Rockville Centre, then listed them for sale online, according to police.
Investigators said they tracked the stolen toys back to Haas and arrested her about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Most of the boxes of Legos have been recovered, said Officer Jean Deluca, a Nassau police spokeswoman.
Haas was charged with grand larceny. She was arraigned Friday in First District Court in Hempstead and released without bail, records show.
Information on an attorney for Haas wasn't available. A phone number listed for her address was not in service.
