Nassau County police are investigating after a man showed up at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow with a gunshot wound on Sunday morning.

Police said the man appeared at about 10:30 a.m. and that there is now an active shooting investigation in Uniondale.

Meanwhile, the hospital had diverted emergency vehicles away from its emergency room for about 20 minutes Sunday morning while police investigated there, according to hospital spokeswoman Shelley Lotenberg.

"During a short period of time, when there was uncertainty regarding the source of injury to a gunshot victim, and under the advice of the NCPD, the hospital requested ambulances to bring patients to other hospitals," Lotenberg said.
