Cops: Lawrence bank robber caught with the cash
A Manhattan man who police said robbed a Lawrence bank at 9:45 Thursday morning didn't get to keep the cash for long.
Nassau police said 45 minutes after Alberto A. Lopez, 24, fled the Bank of America at 400 Central Avenue with the proceeds from the robbery, he was caught by Fourth Precinct officers on Rockaway Turnpike.
Police said he verbally demanded money from a bank employee, took the cash, and fled northbound on Washington Avenue with an undisclosed amount of money. He was located at 10:30 and arrested without incident, police said.
The cash was returned, and no one was hurt, police said.
Lopez, of 417 W. 150th Street, Apt. 4W, was charged with third-degree robbery and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
