A 30-year-old Roosevelt man was arrested Monday in the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man last week in Hempstead, Nassau County police said.

A second man, also 30, was arrested on a charge of attempted murder, police said. It was not clear if that suspect had fired previously at the same victim or a different victim. Police said the arrests are related to the fatal shooting of Torrance Maye, of 252 Brown St. in Hempstead.

Police said Maye was found on the ground next to a vehicle in the rear parking lot of a store on Main Street at 3:28 a.m. Sept. 18 by Hempstead Village police officers responding to a call of shots fired.

Maye was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow where he died at 4:12 a.m., police said.

Police said Ronald Jackson, 30, of 40 Francis St., was arrested at 8:05 p.m. Monday and charged with second-degree murder. Police said Ronald Bishop, 30, of 103 Martin Dr., Hempstead, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and first-degree reckless endangerment. Both were scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

The arrests were the culmination of an investigation by the Homicide Squad, Nassau Third Squad detectives, Hempstead Village police and officers from the Nassau police Bureau of Special Operations.
