Police are searching for a man who exposed himself to a 13-year-old girl outside her Uniondale middle school on Wednesday and are investigating reports the suspect may be involved in prior incidents.

The girl, whose identity was not released because she is a minor and because she is the alleged victim of a sexual attack, was not injured, police said.

Nassau County police said the girl was passing a white four-door Chevrolet sedan stopped on Lawrence Road near the Lawrence Road Middle School in Hempstead at about 3:20 p.m. when a man asked if she "wanted a ride home." The girl saw the man was exposing himself, police said, and ran back into the school -- where she notified the school principal.

The principal immediately called police.

"She did all the right things," a police spokeswoman said Thursday of the girl.

Police said that others have come forward who may have had similar incidents involving the same suspect. It was not clear when those incidents are alleged to have taken place -- or whether they involved the same school or district.

Police said the investigation is continuing Thursday and asked anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
