A Hicksville man was arrested Tuesday after he pointed a handgun at a man who was checking on a distressed woman outside a Hicksville bar, Nassau police said.

Hector Valdes, 24, of 5 Gardner Ave., was charged with second degree menacing.

A 30-year-old male worker at The Shoppe, 4 West Village Green, saw a woman on a bench outside the bar and went to check on her well-being about 4:30 a.m., police said.

The woman told him that her boyfriend had choked her, police said.

Valdes, the boyfriend, arrived a short time later and after an exchange of words with the man, got into a vehicle, police said. From the vehicle, he pointed a handgun through the window, police said, and warned the victim not to interfere before he left, police said.

Valdes was arrested at his home by detectives at 4:43 p.m., police said.

He was to be arraigned Wednesday on the charge in First District Court, Hempstead.
