Cops: Officer shoots at stolen SUV that drove at him
Nassau County police said Saturday that Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a police-involved shooting that happened Friday night in Farmingdale.
The shooting occurred at 9:12 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of a diner in the 1500 block of Broad Hollow Road, where police had located a 2008 Toyota Highlander that had just been stolen from the parking lot of a restaurant in the 300 block of Conklin Street, according to a police news release.
Police said that as the officer began to get out of his vehicle to investigate, the stolen sport utility vehicle was driven at the officer and collided with the police vehicle’s door. At that point, police said, the officer withdrew his service weapon and fired a round at the vehicle.
The stolen SUV, which police said they believe was occupied by three to four unknown subjects, fled on Broad Hollow Road.
Police said the officer was not injured but was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Detectives ask anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
