Police are investigating a Monday afternoon burglary in West Hempstead in which the suspect fled after being spotted by a resident.

The female victim, 46, "was in her Baldwin Drive home when she saw a male subject standing in the hallway," Nassau County police said in a news release.

The burglar, described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a thin build, wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts and white sneakers, fled through a rear door shortly after 12:30 p.m. without taking anything, police said.

No injuries were reported.
