Cops: Search continues for son who stabbed dad
Police on Saturday morning were still searching for a man who stabbed his father several times in South Farmingdale on Friday before stealing the vehicle of a nearby homeowner who had let him use his bathroom, Nassau County police said.
The father, 53, whose name was not released, was in stable condition at a hospital Saturday morning, police said.
He had been in the back yard of his Grant Street home when police arrived about 1:15 p.m. and saw him with stab wounds to the head and torso, Insp. Kenneth Lack, a police spokesman, said on Friday.
Police were hunting for the son, Eric Georgoulakos, 23, who police said fled in the stolen vehicle, a 2004 tan Chevy TrailBlazer with Pennsylvania plates.
Police ask anyone who sees him to call 911.
The father and son had been arguing, and when officers first arrived at the house, Lack said, they believed the son was still inside. Emergency services officers were called and the area cordoned off, police said.
But a few minutes later, a 911 caller reported seeing a man nearby who fit the son's description -- 6-foot-3 with a crew cut and tattoos on his right arm of Jesus, a hummingbird and Greek writing, police said.
Georgoulakos had gone a few blocks to a house on Washington Street, Lack said.
"He asked to use the bathroom and phone in the home," the inspector said. "The homeowner allowed him to do that and as he walks out of the house, he took car keys to the homeowner's car."
The car keys had been on the coffee table, and there was no confrontation between Georgoulakos and the homeowner, Lack said.
"I think it was unbeknownst to the homeowners until they saw the car gone," he said. "It took them a couple seconds to know what was going on."
