A Massapequa teen was arrested and charged with drug and weapon possession late Wednesday after a state trooper stopped him for speeding on the Meadowbrook Parkway near Merrick Road in Freeport, State Police said.

Andrew Laurice, 19, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and was cited for traffic violations, police said.

He is scheduled to appear for arraignment on March 27.

Police said a trooper assigned to the Valley Stream barracks stopped Laurice on the southbound parkway at 10:35 p.m. after clocking the black Scion sedan he was driving at 80 mph in a 55-mph zone.

"The trooper detected the odor of marijuana while interviewing the driver," police said in an account of the stop, adding that a search of the car "yielded 1 gram of marijuana" and the weapon -- described as "an illegal expandable baton."
