A Long Beach man suspected of shooting another city resident was taken into custody Tuesday after he surrendered to officers outside his residence, police said.

Brian Kelly, 28, of 20 Wyoming Ave., was arrested at about 10:05 a.m., said Lt. Mark Stark, head of patrol for the Long Beach Police Department. He is expected to be arraigned on attempted murder and weapons charges in Long Beach City Court Wednesday, Stark said Tuesday night as officers, armed with a search warrant, looked for the gun in Kelly's home.

Police spokesman Lt. Eric Cregeen said the shooting occurred at 4:23 a.m. outside a closed bar near the intersection of Wisconsin and West Beech street. A motive is unclear, police said.

An official at the shooting scene said the 45-year-old victim was shot three times -- including once in the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Kelly surrendered hours later, Cregeen said.

"Fortunately, we were able to talk him out," Cregeen said. "He walked out peacefully."

It was unclear whether the two men knew each other.
