Officials: Body recovered from Queens ID'd as Daniel Adeyemi, 28, of Uniondale

New York City officials identified a body pulled from the waters off Queens as Daniel Adeyemi, 28, of Uniondale, who went missing last November, authorities said Monday.

A spokesperson for the city medical examiner confirmed that Adeyemi’s body was found on the morning of March 23 in the North Channel near the Joseph P. Addabbo Memorial Bridge. The location is within the confines of the NYPD's 100 Precinct.

NYPD Harbor unit personnel retrieved the remains from the water, an area just south of Howard Beach and west of Kennedy Airport.

Police said the body showed signs of decomposition. Further study was being conducted to determine the cause and manner of death and whether criminality was involved, the medical examiner's office said.

Adeyemi was reported missing to the Nassau County Police on Nov. 19, according to the department, which publicized his disappearance on Nov. 22.

A missing persons report released by the department said Adeyemi was last seen leaving his residence on Nov. 17. He was wearing blue jeans, a blue sweatshirt, a black jacket and white sneakers. Police described Adeyemi at the time as a "vulnerable adult" but a provided no additional explanation.

It was unknown how Adeyemi wound up in the channel location some 17 miles by road from Uniondale, an inland area without close proximity to open water.

Adeyemi’s relatives couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Monday.
