Driver killed in crash on LIE in Jericho
A 47-year-old man was killed early Friday in a one-vehicle crash that closed the Long Island Expressway in Jericho for more than three hours, police said.
Nassau County police said the man was driving a black Nissan sport utility vehicle east on the LIE at about 3:37 a.m., when he lost control, hit the center median and then continued across all four lanes striking a wall.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:11 a.m., police said. Identification is being withheld pending family notification.
There is no criminality suspected at this time, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
All eastbound lanes were closed at Exit 41 from about 4 a.m. to 7 a.m., police said.
When traffic was restored, the right lane remained closed for about another 40 minutes as the accident investigation was completed.
