Three adults, two children and a dog who lived at the home were being assisted by the American Red Cross, officials said.

More than 60 firefighters battled a house fire in East Meadow Tuesday afternoon that forced five people out of their home.

Firefighters from four departments, including East Meadow and the North Bellmore Fire District responded to the blaze on Arleigh Road just after 3:30 p.m., Nassau County Assistant Chief Fire Marshal James Hickman said.

Three adults, two children and a dog who lived at the home were being assisted by the American Red Cross, Hickman said.

Some firefighters and residents of the home were treated and evaluated for minor injuries, Hickman said.

The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. One of the neighboring houses was also damaged by fire, Hickman said.

The Town of Hempstead Building Department was conducting a structural evaluation of the home.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
