A pedestrian who died a day after being struck last week by an electric bike in Long Beach was identified Thursday by the Nassau County Police Department as Barry Spigner, 68.

The e-bike, heading south on Riverside Boulevard at about 9 p.m. Friday, hit the then-unidentified pedestrian walking west on East Park Avenue, Nassau police said last week.

Spigner suffered "severe trauma" and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. On Saturday, a hospital physician pronounced him dead, police said. The police had withheld Spigner's identity since his death, pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the e-bike, a 47-year-old man, remained at the scene, police said.

A graveside service was held for Spigner on Wednesday, according to Dignity Memorial, an obituary website.

A Nassau County Police Department spokesperson did not immediately respond to questions about updates on the specifics of the crash.
