Election filings reveal Suozzi, Haber fundraising

Nassau county executive candidate Thomas Suozzi raised more than $100,000 in the past 25 days while Adam Haber, his Democratic primary opponent, brought in nearly $4,200, according to state Board of Elections filings released Friday.

The documents show that the two candidates vying to challenge Republican County Executive Edward Mangano have significantly slowed their fundraising pace.

Suozzi had raised $1.54 million from Jan. 12 through July 11, while Haber, who is largely self-financing his campaign, brought in nearly $137,000 during that same time period. Haber has lent his campaign $3 million since December, though he made no loans during the recent filing period.

The most recent campaign reports -- which come 32 days before the Sept. 10 Democratic primary -- cover the period from July 12 through Aug. 5.

Suozzi, a former two-term county executive, raised $100,544. More than $67,000 came in individual contributions, while Suozzi received another $32,000 from labor unions and companies.

His campaign spent more than $319,000, primarily on media consultants, television ads and fundraisers.

Suozzi's campaign has $2.02 million in cash on hand.

"The latest filing shows the depth and breadth of support for Tom Suozzi's record of rescuing Nassau from the brink of bankruptcy and his vision to fix Nassau's financial mess once again," Suozzi campaign manager Danny Kazin said.

Haber, a retired Wall Street executive and a Roslyn school board member, raised $4,180, primarily in individual contributions from residents in Roslyn, Syosset and Jericho.

Haber's campaign spent more than $206,000 during the period, with 85 percent of the money going to consultants, his filing shows.

Haber has $2.42 million in cash on hand.

"We are confident that we have the resources needed to win the Democratic primary," Haber campaign spokesman Galen Alexander said. "Our focus is on spreading the word about Adam's message of change that Democratic voters deserve."

Mangano, who is not facing a primary challenger, was not required to release a financial disclosure form this month. Mangano, who is seeking a second term, raised $1.57 million during the first six months of 2013 and has $2.5 million on hand for the Nov. 5 general election.

In the Republican primary for Suffolk County district attorney, campaign finance reports show that challenger Ray Perini has $126,479 cash on hand and raised $19,662 in the past 25 days. He spent $19,423, including $15,000 for elections attorney Martin Connor.

Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota has $662,029 on hand, and raised $5,967 during the filing period.

The final campaign disclosure filing before the primaries is due on Aug. 30.
