Elevator smokes, stores evacuated at mall
An elevator malfunction caused the evacuation of stores in Roosevelt Field Sunday, Nassau County police said.
No one was injured.
Police said an elevator inside Bloomingdale’s had what was determined to be “a mechanical problem” and said it caused “a smoke condition” in the store at 7:18 p.m. Volunteers from the Westbury Fire Department responded to the scene, as did members of the Arson / Bomb Squad, officials said.
“It turned out there was nothing suspicious,” a police spokesman said. “It was mechanical.”
