A 48-year-old man was killed Sunday when his moped entered the opposite lane of traffic and collided head-on with two vehicles in Lawrence, Nassau police said.

The man, whom police did not identify, was driving a blue moped west in the eastbound lane of Rockaway Turnpike about 8:30 p.m. when he collided head-on with a 2015 Honda SUV, police said. The moped and its operator were then struck by an eastbound 2004 box truck, police said.

The man suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a police medic, police said.

The drivers of the Honda and the box truck remained at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Police said an investigation is continuing.
