Garden City welcomes department’s first female police officer

The Garden City Police Department this month swore in its first female officer.

Tiffany D’Alessandro, a Seaford resident, is a former NYPD officer who patrolled the subways and worked in the Anti-Terrorism Unit, according to a posting on the village’s website.

“It was a special honor for me to swear into office the first female officer to join our police department,” Deputy Mayor Theresa Trouvé said in the posting.

D’Alessandro was sworn in Feb. 8 with Officer Eduardo Rodriguez, a veteran of the NYPD and the MTA’s police force, the posting stated. Both received several awards and commendations for their work in New York City.

Their hirings, along with the November appointment of Officer Nicolas Compito, bring the force to 51 officers.

The Garden City Police Department declined to make the new officers available for an interview.

“I am happy to welcome Officers Tiffany D’Alessandro and Eduardo Rodriguez into the ranks of the Garden City Police Department,” Police Commissioner Kenneth Jackson said last week in a statement to Newsday. “They bring strong educational credentials, along with prior police officer experience. They will be an excellent addition in the Department’s efforts to better protect and serve the public.”

Mayor Brian Daughney could not be reached for comment, and Trouvé declined to comment.
