Hempstead man charged with attempted murder
A Hempstead man faces attempted murder charges after stabbing a man three times outside a soup kitchen, Nassau police said.
Police said Richard Scott, 39, was arguing with the victim just before 1:30 p.m. Friday outside the Mary Brennan INN at 100 Madison Ave. The victim slapped Scott in the face, and Scott responded by pulling out a knife and stabbing the victim in the abdomen, police said.
Scott allegedly stabbed the victim in the stomach and, as the victim turned to run away, again in the back. The defendant was eventually taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he is listed in critical condition, police said.
Scott was arrested several hours after the incident. He was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon and tampering with physical evidence. He will be arraigned later Saturday.
