Jannai Allen killed in Hicksville DWI crash; 17-year-old dies in Merrick crash hours later
Two Long Islanders were killed in separate crashes just hours apart, including a 30-year-old man who was killed in a fiery drunken driving crash on Prospect Avenue in Hicksville late Saturday night, according to Nassau County police.
Miguel Nolasco, 42, of Washington Avenue in Roosevelt, was allegedly driving while intoxicated and heading west when his 2005 Honda was struck by an eastbound Subaru making a left turn to head north on Cantiague Rock Road at about 11:19 p.m., police said in a news release.
The driver of the Subaru — identified Tuesday as Jannai Allen, 30, of Westbury — became trapped inside his vehicle as it caught fire and became fully engulfed, police said.
Nolasco was transported to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries, according to police. He was placed under arrest after investigators determined he had been driving while intoxicated, police said.
Nolasco is charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, according to the news release. Police said he will be arraigned when medically practical.
Just a few hours later, a 17-year-old man was killed in Merrick after he crashed into a tree on Merrick Avenue on Sunday morning, police said.
The name and hometown of the victim were not immediately available.
Police said the 17-year-old was southbound in a 2021 Honda CRV on Merrick Avenue at around 2:20 a.m. when he struck a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
No further details on the crash were immediately available.
The investigation was ongoing, according to police.
