Pennsylvania woman, Yvette Hughes, dies of injuries suffered during Inwood crash, police say
A Pennsylvania woman seriously injured in a Tuesday multi-vehicle crash on Nassau Expressway in Inwood has died of her injuries, Nassau County police said Friday.
Police identified the woman as Yvette Hughes, 59, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
According to homicide squad investigators, Hughes was a passenger in a white 2018 Honda that was southbound on Route 878/Nassau Expressway, Tuesday at about 5:25 p.m. when the car was involved in a collision with a blue 2019 Honda that was northbound. The blue Honda then struck a 2020 Kia that also was northbound, police said.
Police said the 64-year-old male driver of the white Honda and a juvenile passenger in the car were not injured, but said Hughes was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
She died of those injuries Thursday, police said.
Police said the driver of the blue Honda, identified only as a 24-year-old woman, was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she was immediately listed in stable condition.
Her recovery status was unclear Friday.
Police said the driver of the Kia was not injured.
Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
