Kim Kaiman quits job at Town of North Hempstead agency

Kim Kaiman, executive director of the North Hempstead Business and Development Corp., resigned from her position on Wednesday, officials said.

The town board will confirm her resignation at its June 27 meeting and will vote on any additional funds for unused vacation and sick time.

Town spokeswoman Carole Trottere did not disclose Kaiman’s future job plans.

Kaiman could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Kaiman, 47, is the wife of former Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman, who served from 2004 to 2013. She was hired by the town in 2014 at an annual salary of $75,000. Her salary was bumped up to $81,344 this year.

She is one of the agency’s two full-time employees. Deputy Director Roy Smitheimer is paid $69,143 annually. He will take on Kaiman’s responsibilities in the meantime, town spokeswoman Rebecca Cheng said. The town has not yet published a job posting on its website for the position.

The agency is partially subsidized by the town, which allocated $75,000 for the agency this year. Its mission is to attract new business development and tourism in the town.

Deputy Town Supervisor Aline Khatchadourian said that “as people leave we re-evaluate the positions and see what we’re going to do.”

The town board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Town Hall at 220 Plandome Rd. in Manhasset.
