Cops ID dump truck driver killed in North Hills LIE crash
A 59-year-old dump truck driver killed in a crash last week on the Long Island Expressway in North Hills was identified by police Tuesday as Robert Malone of West Islip.
A 911 call about 3:15 a.m. Friday reported the crash near Exit 36, Nassau police said. A 2013 Mack tractor trailer struck a 1996 tractor-trailer-type dump truck from behind on the eastbound LIE, causing the dump truck to overturn, police said at the time.
The driver identified as Malone was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead of his injuries at 4:14 a.m.
Police said the second driver, a 43-year-old man, remained at the scene and was not injured.
No criminality is suspected, police said.
