A Long Island Rail Road train struck and killed a man near the Auburndale station Friday, a railroad spokesman said.
The identity of the man killed has not been released. It was not clear why the man was on the tracks. Officials said the investigation was continuing Friday.
The accident suspended service on the Port Washington branch. Limited service was restored just after 7 a.m., and full service was restored at about 8 a.m., with residual delays of up to 20 minutes, the LIRR said.
The first Port Washington train to leave at its scheduled time was the 7:19 a.m. from Port Washington, due at Penn at 7:58 a.m., the MTA said.
The 5:09 a.m. train from Port Washington, scheduled to arrive at Penn Station at 5:52 a.m., was carrying about 150 passengers when it struck the man just east of Auburndale at about 5:30 a.m., a spokesman said.
No one on board the train was injured and the train was delayed at Auburndale.
The 5:36 a.m. train, due at Penn at 6:21 a.m., was canceled, as was the 7:06 a.m. train from Great Neck. That train was scheduled to arrive at Penn at 7:46 a.m. The eastbound 5:30 a.m. train from Penn Station, due to arrive in Port Washington at 6:13 a.m., was held at Woodside. New York City Transit honored railroad fares on the 7 subway line.
