Darren Teti, 31, of Levittown, killed in Taconic State Parkway motorcycle crash

A Levittown man riding a motorcycle in upstate Putnam Valley was killed when the bike crashed on the Taconic State Parkway, the New York State Police said.

Darren Teti, 31, died in the crash that occurred just before 7:15 p.m. Friday on a stretch of parkway in the Putnam County town, according to a state police report.

On Sunday, Teti's mother, Stacey Teti, told Newsday her son "was a great kid — he was giving and he was kind hearted. He'd help my neighbor, who's 92. He'd go over there and help him out."

His grandmother Linda Teti said he was riding a motorcycle on his way to visit family in Germantown. On Sunday, police had not yet provided the family details about what caused the crash, she said.

"He had just gotten this motorcycle maybe a month or so ago, and it was something he really was excited about, and unfortunately, it didn't bring him good luck," she said.

Darren Teti had worked as a waiter, busser and warehouse worker, according to a resume posted on social media, which his family confirmed. He listed hunting, fishing and swimming as his hobbies.

Teti grew up between upstate Columbia County and Long Island, according to his mother.

His brother, Timothy Karcher, had tried to persuade him to sell the motorcycle because he felt it was unsafe, according to their mother.

"He just had a lot of demons inside of him. He liked going fast and living life fast," she said. "He lived the way he wanted to live."
