Woman charged with attempting to defraud New Hyde Park bank

Nassau Police arrested a woman on charges she attempted to defraud a New Hyde Park bank.

Sabrina L. Spencer, 47, of 55 W. 110th St. in Manhattan, pleaded not guilty in First District Court in Hempstead Sunday on charges of attempted grand larceny, identity theft, possessing a forged instrument and resisting arrest.

Detectives said Spencer attempted to withdraw money Saturday from a woman's account at the Chase bank located at 350 Hillside Ave. They said Spencer presented a fraudulent New Jersey driver's license and Bank of America credit card as identification.

As the bank manager verified the identification of the account holder, Spencer slipped out of the bank and hid behind the garage of a home on North Second Street, where she was spotted by police officers. Detectives said Spencer began "flailing her arms and kicking the officers, refusing to be handcuffed," but was eventually subdued.

Spencer's bail was set at $10,000 bond or $5,000 cash, neither of which was posted as of Sunday night according to court records.
