Mercedes-Benz driver, passengers leave scene of crash on Southern State Parkway, cops say

A black Mercedes-Benz crashed on the Southern State Parkway in Uniondale Friday morning, and State Police are looking for the three occupants who walked off into the woods.
The vehicle was westbound when it crashed about 10:25 a.m. just west of Exit 22, police said.
Photos from the scene show the car slammed into a guardrail, resulting in heavy damage. The car had to be removed by a heavy-duty wrecker, which lifted it from a wooded area along the shoulder.
When troopers arrived no one was in the car, but other drivers told them what happened.
"They just calmly walked away," Sgt. Curtis Feggins said of the occupants.
Witnesses reported that two men and a woman walked off into the woods between the westbound shoulder and a residential area, Feggins said.
Investigators found the Mercedes' owner, a woman who told them her vehicle had been stolen about five minutes before the crash, State Police said.
Nassau County police said she reported the vehicle stolen about 11:30 a.m. Investigators were checking out her story.
Feggins said it's clear that the Mercedes owner is not the woman who walked away from the crash.
