A motorcyclist was killed Friday evening after striking a Nassau Inter-County Express bus in Lynbrook, according to a Nassau County police.

The 40-year-old motorcyclist on a 2010 Ducati was traveling east on Peninsula Boulevard when he collided with the rear of a westbound NICE N25 bus that was making a left turn onto Hempstead Avenue at 5:32 p.m., police said in a statement.

Debris from the crash struck a 2024 Honda CRV being operated by a 25-year-old female, police said.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. No other injuries were reported.

The bus was not in service at the time of the accident, according to a NICE spokesperson. The female bus driver was not injured, and there were no passengers on board, the NICE spokesperson said.

"NICE Bus and its safety team are cooperating with the Nassau County Police Department and the Public Transportation Safety Board in their investigation, and we defer further comment to those agencies," the NICE spokesperson said via email.

Police said the investigation was ongoing.
