A man was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train at the Hicksville station Thursday, officials said.

A railroad spokesman said the victim "apparently jumped" in front of the westbound 5:39 a.m. train from Montauk at about 8 a.m. Nassau County police said the fatal strike was reported in a 911 call at 8:04 a.m.

The identity of the victim has not been released. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority police said only that the victim is a 77-year-old male.

Railroad officials said the train involved in the accident was headed to Hunterspoint Avenue. Passengers disembarked after the accident and were accommodated by a following westbound train.

Officials said the accident caused minor delays on the Main Line, including two cancellations. The accident remains under investigation by the MTA police, officials said.

The LIRR announced shortly before 10:30 a.m. that the railroad was on or close to schedule in both directions.
