Nassau BOCES: Buildings on ‘modified lockout’ after threat
A threat to its buildings has prompted Nassau BOCES to declare a second day of a “modified lockout” during the shortened Thanksgiving week.
The educational services program, with more than a dozen buildings in Nassau, did not elaborate on the type of threat but said the lockout was effective for Tuesday and Wednesday.
“This means that entry into all Nassau BOCES buildings will be limited,” according to the post at the Nassau BOCES website. “All field trips and work placements will be canceled. All building use by outside organizations is canceled.”
The post said afternoon, twilight and evening sessions at the Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Education Center in Westbury and other adult program locations will continue as scheduled.
Nassau BOCES Superintendent Robert Dillon said the program was notified by Nassau County police of a threat to buildings.
Under the modified lockout, entry to the buildings has been restricted to Nassau BOCES staff, students and a few preauthorized visitors, he said in a statement Wednesday.
A spokesman for Nassau County police said the department received an anonymous call from out of state about Nassau BOCES on Monday morning.
“It was investigated and deemed not credible,” he said.
