A small fire in a child-care center at Farmingdale State College early Friday was quickly contained, and no injuries were reported, an official at the county's Fire Rescue Emergency Services said.

A teacher smelled smoke when she opened the day care for the day. No children were in the center.

The fire was electrical and started in the heating and air-conditioning system, East Farmingdale Fire Department Assistant Chief Joseph Wisz said.

The fire was reported to the East Farmingdale Fire Department at 7:20 a.m. and was reported contained by 7:53.

He said about 30 fire department members quickly put out the fire with minimal damage to the school.
