Travel lanes will be closed during overnight hours on Wednesday and Thursday from Exit 27 at Shelter Rock Road to Exit 31 at the Meadowbrook State Parkway on the Northern State Parkway, state officials said.

On Wednesday night, one or two eastbound travel lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and on Thursday at least one westbound lane will be closed over the same time period.

One travel lane will remain open on each day but state Department of Transportation officials urge motorists to use alternative routes such as the Long Island Expressway in order to avoid delays.

The closures are part of a project to make improvements to the pavement before harsh winter weather sets in, officials said.

Officials also said that motorists may get real-time information by calling 511 or visiting www.511NY.org, the state’s traffic and travel information source. Another source of travel information from the INFORM Transportation Management Center cameras is at www.INFORMNY.com.
