Officials: 3 Nassau cops hurt in Hicksville chase
A woman suspected of leaving the scene of a Hicksville accident led Nassau police on a chase Thursday that ended with three officers suffering minor injuries when she collided with three police cars as she tried to get away, police said.
The woman, Catherine Sharkey of Hicksville, was taken into custody after her car crashed into a utility pole, police said. The officers were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. Officers initially responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident near Jay and Dean streets about 5:05 p.m., police said. A short time later, they spotted the suspect's vehicle, but Sharkey refused commands to stop, police said, and during a 15-minute pursuit struck three of the responding police cars.
One officer suffered a hand injury, a second, a back injury, and the third, a neck injury, police said.
Sharkey was arrested when her car stopped after it crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Barclay Street and South Broadway, police said. The specific charges were not immediately available.
