A dispute over the $900,000 gut renovation of the village of Oyster Bay Cove’s police building may wind up in court, village officials said Tuesday. The renovation, which expanded a lower level in what had been a police shack at the intersection of Berry Hill Road and Route 25A, began about a year ago and is largely finished.

The village trustees went into executive session at their Tuesday meeting to discuss potential litigation regarding the renovation. Afterward, Mayor Rosemary Bourne declined to say what the dispute was about, citing potential litigation, or whether the village could be the plaintiff or the defendant.

Bourne said the contractor on the job was Ravco Construction Inc. of Medford. A call to Ravco was not returned Wednesday.

Village officials said the renovation, which included a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, new wiring, lockers for female officers and about 200 additional square feet, was needed because the decades old building was in disrepair and the force had recently expanded by two officers to 13 when the village began providing police service to Laurel Hollow in 2012.

“It was an elderly structure and the size of the force has increased,” Bourne said Tuesday. “It went from a booth to a police building.”
