A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on Old Country Road in Westbury on Thursday night, Nassau County police said.

The 57-year-old man was crossing the road from south to north at Evelyn Avenue about 8:20 p.m., police said in a news release. A westbound 2009 Nissan driven by a 43-year-old man struck the pedestrian, causing severe body trauma.

The pedestrian was transported in a police ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His identity was not released pending family notification.

The vehicle was safety- and brake-tested at the scene. The Homicide Squad is investigating, police said.

Authorities closed westbound Old Country Road between Evelyn and Rockaway avenues to investigate the crash from 9 p.m. to 12:24 a.m., according to traffic advisories.
