Nassau County police said they are still searching for the second suspect in a stabbing in December in Hempstead. The man goes by either Jose or Luis Alberto Sorto, police said, and his last known address was on Hendrickson Avenue in Hempstead.

His alleged accomplice was arrested minutes after the stabbing, charged with attempted murder, and is being held in lieu of $1 million bond or cash bail.

Anyone with information about Alberto Sorto is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.

The stabbing took place on Washington Street in Hempstead at about 6:40 p.m. Dec. 6, police said. Hempstead Village police arrested a suspect, identified as Alejandro Suazo Molina, 45, of 50 Jackson St., Hempstead, minutes after the brutal attack, police said.

The victim, identified only as a 33-year-old man, was stabbed "numerous times," police said. He is recovering.

Court records show that Suazo Molina was indicted by a grand jury on Jan. 23, but pleaded not guilty on Feb. 19 to first-degree attempted murder, assault with intent to seriously injure, attempted assault with intent to seriously injure and to two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use. His next court appearance is July 8, according to records.

Police said Alberto Sorto also was involved in the attack, but could not immediately provide additional details other than to state that "while acting in concert with another subject already arrested" he did "stab a victim numerous times."

There is a reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest in the case.
